Adam Tindall – Building Information Manager, Assemble

Adam has been on the Assemble team for nearly a decade across the Residential, Commercial, Education, Hotel, Hospitality, and Industrial sectors. Assemble works on a vast range of project types and scales and Adam’s experience is in the management and delivery for full project life cycle BIM on mid to larger scale projects. He focuses on implementing new approaches to BIM from design, construction, project handover and works with clients defining asset information requirements and project delivery methods.

 Adam is passionate about the potential of new technologies and how we interact and leverage them to bring added value throughout the entire project life cycle.

Andy Lyon – Programme Director, Digital Engineering, KiwiRail

Andy is a chartered engineer and leads KiwiRail’s digital engineering transformation. Before moving to his current role he was responsible for the development and delivery of the KiwiRail BIM Pilot through the Wellington Metro Upgrade, including the award winning Trentham to Upper Hutt project.  As a result of the successful digital delivery of the pilot the KiwiRail Digital Engineering team was formed to transform the way KiwiRail works.

Andy is passionate about working with industry to affect a wider change in this area and is a member of the NZ BIM Acceleration Committee as well as a founder of the Digital Asset Owners Forum which seeks to drive consistency in the uptake of BIM and digital engineering through collaboration with other asset owners.

Brad Sara – Associate Principal / Digital Business Advisor, Warren and Mahoney

Brad is an Associate Principal at Warren and Mahoney, Digital Business Advisor and Director of Warren and Mahoney Technologies. He has an advanced knowledge of BIM and is passionate about leading its development industry-wide.

Over the last 20 years he has been engaged on many large and complex projects across Australasia leading design and construction teams to brief, communicate, deliver and validate BIM uses and requirements to the full project team. Brad's passion for improving the construction sector is at the forefront of what he does and is reflected in the outcomes he achieves.

Chris Scott – Principal & Registered Architect, Jasmax

With over 30 years’ experience in architecture, Jasmax Principal Chris Scott is one of New Zealand’s leading education design specialists and co-leads the Education team at Jasmax. His expertise has contributed to the creation of highly innovative learning environments that are changing the educational experience of students in New Zealand. 

Over the past 12 years, Chris has been responsible for the design and delivery of major developments for three major New Zealand universities. Past projects include the Sir Paul Reeves and Ngā Wai Hono buildings for AUT, and more recently, the 450-bed Te Rangi Hiroa College student accomodation building – the first new college designed for Otago University in 50 years. 

Currently working closely with AUT and the University of Auckland (UoA), Chris is currently leading AUT’s A1 project for the Faculty of Health and Environmental Sciences and UoA’s proposed 6-Star Green Star-rated B201 building for the Faculties of Arts, Education and Social Work. 

Both these projects start with the adaptive reuse of 40-year-old buildings. Integrated with new engineered timber structures to increase and augment activities, each project provides a realistic, achievable roadmap toward a low carbon future.

Christian McCartney – BIM & Technology Systems Lead, Hawkins Auckland

As Hawkins’ national Digital Construction/BIM lead, Christian has considerable experience in the successful implementation and utilization of BIM processes and tools across a range of projects – commercial, education, and infrastructure, through to large scale developments within operational hospital and airport environments. His site-based background ensures that this is always tempered by a practical perspective and aligned with the needs and capabilities of the project team.

Christian is a regular contributor to industry and academic initiatives including the ongoing development of the NZ BIM Handbook and guest lecturing to the next generation of industry professionals. Christian also chairs the committee of the BIMinNZ Auckland network group.

Emily Newmarch – PhD Candidate, Victoria University of Wellington

Emily‘s PhD research project represents a partnership with Warren and Mahoney to explore the possibilities of low carbon design for the industry. Specifically, her research is focused on understanding the way we can measure, design and value architecture for a low carbon future. 

Emily‘s previous research focused on the integration of thermal performance analysis within different BIM enabled software. Through her work in this area of investigation, she has been published internationally on scientific platforms, while Emily has also been the recipient of awards for design.

Outside of her studies, Emily has been involved with teaching students design processes, environmental design, construction, and research methodologies.

Jeff McHardy – Project Director, LT McGuinness

Jeff has a passion for Vertical Construction. Working in both Early Contractor Involvement roles on several key projects for LT McGuinness, and actively engaged with the delivery of Takinā, The Wellington Convention and Exhibition Centre, and The Site 9 building on Wellington’s Waterfront.

Having been involved in Main Contracting since he completed his Bachelor of Building Science at Victoria University, Jeff has been exposed to a live construction environment for his whole working life. After a 7-year stint travelling overseas and living in London, he returned to Wellington and has been employed by LT McGuinness, successfully delivering several large projects in the Commercial Construction landscape of Wellington.

Having worked his way through most roles in Construction from a Cadet, Site Manager through to a Project Manager Jeff brings his strong technical knowledge, construction methodology and commercial understanding to all stages of projects.

Jun Tsujimoto – Principal & Registered Architect, Jasmax

Jun Tsujimoto focuses on architecture that has the potential to influence and shape cities. He is inspired by both institutional and community led initiatives that act as a catalyst for urban regeneration, and the role that architecture plays in support of this process. 

 Jun provides design leadership across the Jasmax, working alongside our interdisciplinary project teams to develop robust conceptual frameworks that help clients achieve their objectives. Jun has an impressive portfolio of work, encompassing boutique fitouts and residential projects, tertiary education, civic buildings, and urban infrastructure in both New Zealand and Japan. 

Jun’s projects include the completed AUT Sir Paul Reeves and Ngā Wai Hono (Engineering, Computing and Mathematical Sciences) Buildings, the New Zealand Pavilion for Expo 2020 in Dubai, the future Waikato Regional Theatre, Auckland’s CRL (City Rail Link), and the University of Auckland’s B201 building. Each unique project demonstrates Jun’s aptitude for achieving design clarity on projects of significant scale and complexity.

Karl Fitzpatrick – Building Information Manager, Auckland Airport

Karl Fitzpatrick is the Building Information Manager for Auckland Airport in New Zealand and is tasked with reimagining how built environment data can be utilised in a business that isn’t your typical AEC firm. Having previously studied Architecture in New Zealand and working as an Architect on healthcare projects in Finland, Karl has experience working on both sides of large-scale and complex projects. Karl is passionate about the need for OpenBIM and fostering innovation by not dictating what tools the supply chain must use, but rather, setting clear requirements for data delivery.

Farzam Farzadi - Senior Associate - Digital Engineering Advisory, Beca

Farzam has more than 16 years of experience working in the construction industry across multiple segments such as Commercial, Industrial, Education, Health, T&I, Water, Defence , and Tourism. He is truly passionate about Digital Engineering and Digital Asset Management. He eagers to identify innovative approaches and utilise practical procedures to generate high-quality outcomes. He starts the design stage of every project with a focus on the construction and operation phases. Farzam strives to understand the needs of his clients so can empower them with digital approaches that provide effective outcomes. He drives development, collaboration, and coordination of Digital Engineering processes which can have positive impacts during life cycle assets.

Farzam was declared winner of the Innovation and the Supreme Awards at this year’s New Zealand Institute of Building (NZIOB) awards. He became a history maker by being the first Innovation Award winner in New Zealand who won the Supreme Award as well.
